OUR STORY

A breeding enterprise to raise quality cattle responsibly and ethically since 2008

Jackaroo Pastoral Co. Pty Ltd commenced in 2008 with the acquisition of Rockwell and Blue Lakes in South Western Queensland near Cunnamulla.

The 121,502 acre station was considered an ambitious jump into the industry with no shallow pool to start operating as basically a 'calf factory' with Santa Gertrudis selling weaners into the Queensland market. With the later introduction of some quality Angus bulls to throw lovely black calves we were covered to sell the black weaners into the NSW market. We acquired Neverfail and Wyuna and jumped up to over 200,000 acres with real scope for bigger numbers.

We eventually sold opportunistically and decided a small, boutique operation was the best fit to work at quality rather than quantity. Based at 'Wangrah Creek' Bredbo, the gateway to the Snowy region, at just 750m elevation, Jackaroo Angus Stud commenced. We are centrally located to breed Angus cattle and supply future sires into the NSW, Queensland or Victorian markets. We have a secondary enterprise breeding and selling F1 Wagyu weaners that integrates seamlessly into our operation. This is an evolving families and friends type business enterprise borne of passion yet we take it very seriously so everything is underpinned by care and professionalism with focus on excellence in outcomes for ourselves and our clients.

Special thanks to great friends the Mitchells from ‘Cashel Vale’ Bollon. Stuart and Ba supported and guided the initial operation always. Also our first Stock agent, Jim Nott from St George, who still has the battle scars to prove his friendship and loyalty!

Our current stock agent at Cooma, Damien Roach, is a dedicated agent that will go out of his way at all times to assist us as he will our buyers so feel free to talk to Damien direct or have your agent contact Damien or Mark Allan from our team anytime. Mark is also a Licensed Real Estate Agent; Stock and Station Agent; Accredited Auctioneer and an AuctionsPlus Accredited Delivery Agent as well as a Transport for NSW Accredited Livestock Loading Scheme Driver Assessor.

We look forward to being of service to you and providing you with buyer comfort from the benefit of our experience.

OUR BREEDING OBJECTIVES

We take pride in what we do as custodians of our bull calves until our customers take over and reap the long term rewards!

Our breeding objectives are designed to provide our customers with proven, quality stock, underpinned by genetics and pedigrees that maximise productive, efficient, easy calving/easy doing animals. We compliment 'nature' with 'nurture' to educate through low stress stock handling at weaning and beyond to further promote docility and safe handling.

Our stock are not ‘dressed’ or 'fitted' to impress for point of sale, rather, we sell quality ‘working bulls’ and/or bull calves ready to go into your paddock, spend some time adapting and acclimatising then getting to work as soon as possible.

The underlying benefits our bulls provide is the ability to improve performance in carcass and fertility whilst maximising phenotype and temperament to assist your own herd improvement.

In our aim to supply superior animals we collect and submit all required Angus Breed plan Data to TACE and ensure ongoing monitoring of structural assessment criteria.

Based on the Monaro at 750m elevation we go to great lengths to ensure that nutrition is not compromised and in the earliest possible stages we ensure ongoing growth and development.

In monitoring and managing nutrition and rumen function along with low stress stock handling and education all year, our bulls can grow into their skin and achieve their potential without compromising joint and bone development - nothing is rushed. Quality before Quantity!

Our quality assurance program and guarantee assists producers to take on best practice animal nutrition and management techniques as well.
